Indian Ministry of Home Affairs Update on India Visa and Travel Restrictions

Recall that the aftermath of the rampaging Covid-19 pandemic had led to various steps taken by the government to restrict movement into and out of India since February 2020.

Government is hereby announcing another graded relaxation to the restrictions on visa and travel. This new relaxation caters for more categories of foreign nationals and Indian nationals who wish to enter or leave India.

With this development, permission is hereby granted to all OCI and PIO cardholders. This also extends to other foreign nationals who are planning to visit India for any purpose. However, foreigners with a Tourist Visa are still exempted.

All categories of travelers covered under this new relaxation are to enter India by air or by water via the authorized airports and seaport immigration check posts.

The Ministry of Civil Aviation approved non scheduled commercial airlines, Air Transport Bubble arrangements or flights operated under Vande Bharat Mission are the only authorized means of entering for this category of travelers.

It is important to note that there must be strict compliance with the Covid-19 guidelines of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. Also, all quarantine and other health guidelines should be adhered to strictly.

Lastly, this latest graded relaxation by the government has also restored with immediate effect all existing visas (except electronic visa, Tourist Visa and Medical Visa)

For a visa in the category of those restored but whose validity has expired, the government allows that such traveler visits a concerned Indian mission/post for issuance of fresh visas of appropriate categories.

Moreover, foreign nationals traveling for the purpose of medical treatment can apply for a Medical Visa for themselves and their attendants.

In summary, this relaxation will now enable foreign nationals to come to India henceforth for the purposes of business, employment, research, studies, medical, conference etc.
